It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Darin G. Kohler on December 24, 2024, at the age of 64, due to an aortic rupture. Born on October 22, 1960, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Darin lived a life marked by compassion, creativity, and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.
Darin built a successful career as an executive recruiter in the Asset-Based Lending industry, dedicating nearly 40 years to connecting talent with opportunity. He was highly respected in his field, known for his professionalism, integrity, and the relationships he fostered.
While Darin excelled in his career, his true passion was music. A talented writer and performer, he poured his heart and soul into creating and sharing songs that resonated deeply with those who listened. Whether crafting lyrics, playing guitar, or performing, Darin’s music was a reflection of his vibrant and creative spirit.
Darin was a spiritual seeker, and he was not afraid of death. One of the last things he was heard to say to the paramedics was “Wouldn’t it be funny if I died tonight?” Not so funny for us, but there you go, a true Darin-ism.
Throughout his life, Darin called many places home, but Asheville, North Carolina, and Chicago, Illinois, held a special place in his heart. These cities served as sources of inspiration and connection, where he shared his gifts and built lasting friendships.
Darin is survived by his brothers, Kerry, Kurt (Beth), and Jon; his stepmother, Helen Kohler; his ex-wife and friend, Amy; and his business partner and great friend, John Maselli. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews who adored him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Beverly, and his siblings, Julie and Craig. Though deeply missed, Darin’s memory will live on through his family, friends, and the countless lives he touched.
A celebration of Darin’s life will be held on January 26th@ 4-9PM at the Copper Fiddle in Lake Zurich, Illinois( copperfiddledistillery.com), where loved ones will gather to honor his legacy, share cherished memories, and celebrate the music and joy he brought to the world.
